In 2009 I was invited to give two lectures covering the creation of a designers portfolio website at the University of Gloucestershire. The first covered general preparation before starting a site, the evolution of the web, appropriate content and potential development technologies. The second combined the basic principles of CSS and HTML with a practical workshop where the students would create a simple site in a matter of hours.
It was the students’ first exposure to web design so I tried to make sure that the content was accessible but pacey to ensure that they engaged with the subject matter and didn’t feel overwhelmed.
